What you could see was very much like my view at an Obama rally last fall in Hampton, VA. I could hear the whole speech clearly, but I could only glimpse him fleetingly in the distance as the sea of heads parted for an instant or two. All my photos captured were the backs of heads.

In contrast, when I attended a subsequent campaign event in Portsmouth, VA, at which Caroline Kennedy was the featured speaker, I was sitting right above her podium and got to see her fairly clearly. I was so excited about the good location, however, that I couldn't hold my camera steady enough to get a decent picture! I guess I will have to apprentice a bit longer before I can qualify as a member of the paparazzi. Ansel Adams had an easier time of it doing landscapes.

And now that I am posting photos on my blogs, I too have a new appreciation for photographers like Ansel Adams, my nephew Max Gerber, and all the TV news cameraman I worked with over the years. I'm lucky if I can point and shoot.

Welcome

  • I started this blog in honor of all the times I've said: "I NEVER SIGNED UP FOR THIS" in the course of my life as a mother, breast cancer survivor, artist and TV journalist. My goal is to share the big and little things we all care about-- hopefully with humanity and humor. ------- DARRYLE POLLACK
